    Teachers

I can officially confirm that teachers love stationery - so many of my customers are teachers and they buy it for themselves and their friends, and I can guarantee that a notepad, mousemat notepad, box of note sheets or a To Do list will be very well received by your child’s teacher.  Plus there’s my fantastic Teacher Collection with great teacher-inspired illustrations.

Selection of Mini Notepads ($9) from the Teachers Collection

Selection of Mini Notepads ($9) from the Teachers Collection

    Kris Kringle Gifts/Stocking Stuffers

All of the notepads are a great and inexpensive Kris Kringle for your workmates – there will definitely be an illustration that works for everyone – be it sport, shopping, shoes, animals, humour, food, wine – I’ve got them all covered!  Fabulous too as a stocking stuffer, or a ‘spare’ last-minute gift to give when someone turns up unexpectedly.

     selection-MNP

And to make life easy for you - there are two search options:

Looking for a particular type of illustration (chocolate, wine, dogs, cats, shoes) then use the Image Search option (on the left side of the Search tab page) – type in what you’re looking for (the search word needs to be a minimum of 4 letters, so type in “dogs” not “dog”)

Or if you’re after a format which isn’t available across all illustrations (for example: Calling Card, Food & Exercise Diary, Shopping List) then use the Format Search option (add a tick in the box against the format you’re interested in, then click the ‘Search’ button at the base of the list (which is in alphabetical order)

Note that the vast majority of the illustrations (99.9%) come in the following formats – notepad, to do list, mini notepad, mousemat notepad, correspondence card, spiral bound notebook, note sheet, note card and mousemat notepad).

So I hope I’ve given you a few ideas … and don’t forget, I’m only an email or phone call away if you need a hand.

Tis the season to … say thank you

      Monday, November 18th, 2013

We’re coming up to that time of year when Thank you notes are very useful – whether it’s a “thank you for the Christmas gift“, a “thanks for the drinks“, a “thank goodness you had Christmas lunch at your place this year” or a “thanks for having us to stay” … as my gorgeous Gran used to say “The words ’thank you’ never go astray.

      Thank-you----Flat-Card

As those of you who follow my posts will know, I have a love affair with typefaces (hmmm, along with magazines, wine and chocolate – oh, and don’t forget cats and dogs).  Anyway – I recently purchased a beautiful new font for the website – Cantoni – and it’s perfect for thank you notes.

Plus I’ve added Cantoni to the ‘Name and Address” Collection – so now you can organise your own personalised stationery using it …  as well as to say “thank you”.

      cantoni---FC

And don’t think you have to stick with black type – it can be just about any colour you want – so have a look at the Colour Chart on the website, and simply drop me a note (via the Comments box on the checkout page) advising what colour you’d like your personalisation to be.  (If you’re uncertain how it may look – tick the ‘I want to see a proof’ box and I will send you one to have a look at before it goes to print.

      Enjoy!

        A Gratitude Tree …

        Wednesday, November 6th, 2013

Those of you who receive my monthly newsletters would know that I’m very much a believer of having an “attitude of gratitude”.   I think most of us spend too much time thinking of what we want, rather than being grateful for what we already have.

I thought at this time of the year, when everyone is starting to focus on Christmas and what they are going to buy (or more to the point hoping to receive), it would be a nice idea to make a Gratitude Tree.

        236_3619

The idea is to find a few branches, put them into a vase or jug and make some little “I am thankful for” tags to write on and hang from the branches.  It’s a particularly great idea for kids, who often seem to have a ‘want want want’ mindset - a good way for them to take time and reflect on how fortunate they are.  And for adults, what a wonderful idea to be thankful for the simple things in life – a beautiful sunset, your health, your family, your best friend’s recovery from cancer!   Invite your visitors to participate too.   Perhaps your family members could add a tag a day – it only takes a few seconds.

        236_3620

If you would like to receive a JPG  file for either or both of these two “I am thankful for” tags I have used, please contact me  via email on julie@notecouture.com.au) and I will email them to you with my compliments.  You can print them onto some light card, cut them up, punch a hole in the top and thread through some pretty ribbon or twine.  Then keep them in a bowl under your Thankful Tree and friends and family can write and hang them up as they pass your Gratitude Tree each day.   Enjoy :-)

Four ways to succeed in business this Christmas …

            Monday, November 12th, 2012

There was an interesting article in the Melbourne Herald Sun on Saturday (November 10th), which provided some excellent points on how to step in front of key decision makers in your business life over the festive season:

             1.   Network at the staff party, client drinks, industry get-together or any other end of year wrap-up.

             2.  Two drinks should be your total alcoholic limit at events so you don’t get carried away and do something regretful.  (ie:  ”Get into the Christmas spirit, rather  than allowing the Christmas spirits to get into you!”

            3.  Send Cards to contacts or clients to thank or update them on your achievements in 2012.

            4.  Shake Hands or email managers and colleagues, as gifts or a kiss on the cheek can make others uncomfortable.

Regarding point 3 the article says … Sending a Christmas card or note to key clients, contacts and mentors is another activity which can keep you front-of-mind.  Include an update of what you have achieved in the past year and any current plans or projects.   You might not have caught up with some of these key people, but the fact that you’ve remembered them and kept in touch really keeps you in their minds.

You can keep your Christmas card traditional (Christmas Wreaths or X-Decs);  bring a touch of Australiana (Christmas Thongs, or Christmas Uggs);  think a little outside the square (Ho Ho Ho) or add a touch of humour (Decisions Decisions!)

In fact, it doesn’t need to be a Christmas Card – particularly if you’re not an over-the-top Christmassy person – a simple, elegant name-only card would work just as well, or for something different, a Chinese New Year card to welcome in the Year of the Snake on February 10th 2013.

Office Kris Kingle – did you get a guy as your pick?

              Friday, November 9th, 2012

What’s the budget for an office Kris Kringle gift these days?  Last time I had to organise one, it was $10 maximum, but that was a few years ago and I assume, like everything else, the ’expenditure allowance’ has increased.

If you’ve pulled out a female workmate’s name for your Kris Kringle, then it’s usually pretty easy to think of something to get them – I mean what girl doesn’t like shoes, chocolate, shopping, wine, shoes, cats, dogs … or shoes?  And of course, there’s a heap of these illustrations to choose from at Note Couture … easy peasy!

But if you’ve picked a fella’s name out of the hat, it’s not always so straight-forward to come up with something that will be well received.  So it’s a good idea to think about the style of the guy – is he a sports nut?  (Rugby, footy, golf, cricket, sailing, fishing??)  Does he like a drink … or ten?  Or is he the type of person who’s happy to sit in front of the tele in his down time?  Here are a few suggestions that may help.

"Leather and Willow" - Mini Notepad - perfect for a cricket lover

"Beer Injury" - good for a party-man, or someone with a good sense of humour. Mini Notepad $9

"Changing TV Channels" - couch potato/tv fanatic (or anti-fitness sloth!!)

Perhaps he’s more the elegant, sartorial type, if so, one of the elegant name and address options may do the job - excellent for making a good impression.

"From the desk of" - Box of 100 Note Sheets $22.

So depending on your office Kris Kringle budget – $9 for a mini notepad, $17.50 for a notepad, or $22 for a box of note sheets – all work pretty darned well and will look great sitting on his office desk - plus they’ll be useful as notes on inter-office correspondence (well – perhaps not the Cheeky Stamp design – that’s might be better off taken home!!!!)  :-)

"Cheeky Stamp - I haven't got time ..." Box of 100 Note Sheets $22. Perfect for the Politically Incorrect!

Gift giving – get it right.

                Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

I’m pretty certain that for the majority of us, gone are the days (if they ever existed!) of throwing vast amounts of money at the task of buying gifts.  With all of us watching every cent we spend, and many struggling financially, there are very few occasions for lavish gifts; so the first rule has to be not how expensive it is, but how it makes the recipient feel.  How can you make them feel loved and important to you?  How can you bring a smile to their face if they’re having a bad time of things?

I always try and think of the things in the person’s life that bring them joy.  So I will provide a few illustrative suggestions – although stationery may not be the right product for them - but it will give you an idea of what I mean.

Are their children or grandchildren the highlight of their lives?

                Personalised Characters

                Grandchildren

Do they adore their dog or cat or are they really into animals?

                Dogs at the beach

                Kitty Kat in Paris

Does their garden provide them with an outlet when they need to get their hands dirty and get away from it all, or somewhere to think in peace and quiet?

                Gardening

                Garden Girl (Doodle Girls Collection)

                Are they seriously sporty?

                I love golf

                Between the goalposts

Do they have a quirky or ‘non-PC’ sense of humour?

                High Maintenance!

I'll drink no more wine (PS; The cigarette can be deleted from this illustration!)

Or are they chic and stylish and always choose the path of elegance?

                Elegant Name One

                Elegant Name & Address Ten

Are they young, or simply young-at heart?

                What a hoot!

Agnes' essential morning cuppa (Doodle Girls)

Do they regularly check their horoscope (and love handbags)?

Horoscope designs based on handbag styles

Do they love the thrill of shopping or adore shoes and handbags?

                I came I saw I bought

Are they a foodie?  Do they love cooking, drinking wine, chocolate or cupcakes?

                I never met ...

Carrie loves a drop of red

Or are they at their happiest when sitting down with a good book?

                Carrie the bookworm

Sitting pretty with a good book

I hope this helps, and if you’re unsure about what type of stationery to choose (eg:  Correspondence Cards or a Big Note, then check out the Etiquette guide at Note Couture (you need to scroll down the page to view all of the information).  You can find out everything you need to know about What stationery to use for what purpose, why letters are better than email, the different uses of each stationery style, the correct spelling of stationery (nooooooo – it’s not stationary!!) and lots of other useful info.

                  New Christmas designs …

                  Saturday, October 6th, 2012

As life starts getting a bit busy for me in the next few weeks, I’ve already written up, addressed and sealed my christmas cards and they’re sitting on my desk waiting until it’s a more ‘respectable’ time of the year to be posted!

If you want to lessen your upcoming load of christmas tasks, perhaps you too could get your Chrissie cards done and dusted!  All of my new Christmas designs have been added to the website - there’s some adorable ones -with a selection showcased below.

                  Santa Claws NotecardRudolph says hi!

Dear Santa - for Christmas please send ...

                    How tweet is this …

                    Friday, September 7th, 2012

Now I KNOW it’s too early to even start thinking about Christmas (or Stressmas as I call it), but as I need to get all my new Christmas designs organised and uploaded to the website by October 1st  (because people want to buy their Christmas cards – especially if they’re sending them overseas) it means I need to start thinking about Christmas waaayyyyy too early.

Even though I promised myself I wouldn’t mention the ‘C’ word for a few more weeks,  I’m so excited about some of the gorgeous new illustrations to be added, that I wanted to tell you about them.  If you’re into Facebook, then check out my Note Couture Facebook page, as this week I did photography (with the lovely and talented Kimberley Bumpstead) of some of the new Christmas designs, so I’ve added these new photographic images as a facebook photo album, and those who are interested can have a sneak peek.

                    A tweet Christmas - Notecard

And today I received another gorgeous  new illustration – A tweet Christmas - very cute  – so this morning I added it to the website, and just had to share!   My goodness, it will be a hard decision which chrissie cards I choose to send out this year.   (But I promise, no more ‘Christmas’ until at least October 1st!)
